Day 24 - Slow Down & Reflect

Name:  Angela Henning (faculty)

Scripture:
“You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” (Psalm 39:5 NLT)

Reflections:
How am I going to fit in one more thing? I just don’t have any more time!
We are all too aware of the rapid pace of this world. There is always something that must be done. There is always somewhere we must be. There never seems to be enough time. Yet, in the midst of all this craziness, we are by challenged by the season of Lent. This season pushes back against all our to-do lists and all our commitments. It calls into question the routine of our lives and makes us stop and think about what is really important. It does not care whether we are already over committed. It just demands that we slow down. It requires us to attend to our souls.

It is in this season of slowing down that we are given the chance to reflect. We are given the opportunity to shift our focus. As we take a pause in our all-too-busy lives, we are able to turn our gaze from the temporary to the eternal. We can slow down and simply be aware and attentive in the presence of a mighty God.  As we experience this shift in pace, we can experience the thing that matters the most. We can reflect on the resurrection and on the hope we have in Him who conquered death.

Prayer for the Day:
Dear precious Lord Jesus, remind me again and again for my need to slow down. Slow me down so that I may see you more clearly and be drawn into you in new and authentic ways. Let me celebrate the redemption that only you offer each and every day.
