Scripture: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you .” (Acts 1:8)
Reflections:
As I begin to look toward the commemoration of Jesus’ death on the cross I am amazed and humbled at what He accomplished there. He willingly left the glory of heaven to come to earth so he could experience life as I experience it. He loved me so much that He died on that cross so I can have a deep and meaningful relationship with God, His Father.
But wait, that’s not all of it. Jesus didn’t just die on the cross. Three days later one of God’s angels moved the stone with so much force an earthquake was involved. But even that is still not everything. The tomb was empty. Imagine the power behind not just moving a stone but breaking the bonds of death.
But even this is just the beginning. That power is offered to me, to all of us. Through the Holy Spirit we have God in us and we have the ability to draw on that power. God doesn’t send us out into the world and expect us to just survive the best we can as we try to do His work. No, He invites us to join Him as He does His work, and we can draw from His power as the work gets done: the same power that rolled away a stone and broke the bonds of death. If we join Him where He is and allow Him to work through us then His power is a part of us.
Prayer for the Day:
Dear Lord, today allow me to accept your unconditional love as shown on the cross, and to walk with you in your never-ending power.
