Day 14 - DO This in Remembrance of Me

Name: Kathryn Moga (Axiliary Faculty)

Scripture:
I will remember the deeds of the Lord . . . With your mighty arm you redeemed your people.” (Psalm 77: 11-15)

Reflections:
Lent . . . a smudge of ash on the forehead, the feel of a rough palm branch in my hand on the Sunday before Easter, the smell of burning candles as the congregation somberly walks through the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday.

I miss these rhythms of the liturgical year that I grew up with - that marvelously tangible way of remembering the sacred story.  The season of Lent was filled with palpable reminders that our seemingly insignificant little lives are entwined with a much greater story – THE story of how God is rescuing humanity.

That we actively remember this fact seems to be especially important to God.

In the Old Testament, God commanded the Israelites to regularly relive the story of how He had rescued them from bondage to the Egyptians.  That Exodus event is still played out annually in millions of Jewish homes through the Seder – a ritual meal, in which this dramatic rescue story is experienced through the food, and those in attendance tell of God’s miraculous deliverance in the first person, as if they themselves are the actual liberated slaves who walked on dry land through the parted Sea!

I think God knows we need to be reminded that we have been chosen to play an active role in THE story. I’ve been reminded, so the only question left is: What can I do today?

Prayer for the Day:
Father, remind me to intentionally enter into your salvation story today – is there someone whose feet need washing, someone whose stomach needs filling, someone whose burden needs lifting? Prompt me to action Lord; let me do this in remembrance of you.
