Day 25 - When the End Seems Farther Now

Name: Isaiah Crockran (student)

Scripture:
“My flesh longs for you, Lord, in a dry and weary land.” (Psalm 63:1)

Reflections:
David was in the Desert of Judah when he wrote this Psalm to God. His cry was not of desperation for fear of dehydration. David did not go in search of water to satisfy his flesh. Instead, he cried out confidently to the Living Water for his needs.

We have our own modern day deserts. They may be unrelenting responsibilities at school and work, athletic commitments, and  ministry obligations. We may even desire water to replenish us, or time to rest and become rejuvenated. Sometimes, our schedules are relentless, though, and the heat of the desert consumes us in a fashion that causes us to lose focus and hope. We don’t always know where to go to quench our thirst.

This day of Lent, I urge you to go to God. Allow Him to be your provider in your time of need. Let Him quench your thirst in your time of dehydration. Let perseverance be written on your heart. Pray that focus and clarity are engrained in your mind. Also pray for all of these to be rooted in a firm foundation. Let that foundation be God. If you’re experiencing a time of heaviness, take a moment to read Psalm 63 and reflect on what David says in his temporarily dry time. Remember to look for God when things get hard. He promised that if we did, we would find Him. Seek Him with your heart.

Prayer for the Day:
Father, Come and take your place at the center of my heart. (Inspired by Matt Gilman’s song “Take Your Place.”)
