Day 26 - No Dues to Pay

Author: Kay Llovio (faculty)

Scripture:
“Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ's cross. He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets.” (Colossians 2:13b-15, The Message)

Reflection:

What happens when nothing seems to work?

When our genuine desire, prayer, and submission appear to yield no change in our character?  When--no matter how hard we try--we cannot be victorious over anger, bitterness, low self-worth, gossip, lust, adultery?

Perhaps our battle is not with the flesh alone.  We may be battling another opponent--Satan and his demons.  Not only was the power of sin defeated at the cross, but the power and rule of Satan lost all dominion over believing humanity.  That is the truth of Scripture.

I once heard the story of a software developer, who desired to use a work whose copyright had expired. His fledgling company called to request permission to use the material.  Permission was granted at the standard fee.  When he reported that copyright had expired, the secretary checked and found he was right.  No charge.

How does this story illustrate Satan’s schemes in our lives?  Satan is like a copyright holder whose domain has expired.  However, as long as we are ignorant of that fact, we keep paying the dues.  Satan’s “copyright” on human life has expired.  Challenge him with that fact.  Don’t argue with him and give him power that is not his. Why keep paying dues when the price was already paid?

Prayer for the Day:

Heavenly Father, I bow in worship and praise before You.  I cover myself with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and surrender myself to You.  I take a stand against all the workings of Satan that hinder me and daily I declare these truths:  My sins are forgiven!  Condemnation has no place in my life! I am loved!  Jesus is on the throne of my life! Each day I am becoming more like Christ!
